Emily Anderson

A trained journalist and oral historian, I have spent many years interviewing people for private and community oral history projects, and for documentaries. I am a member of the National Oral History Association of New Zealand.

I can help capture your story in a relaxed and enjoyable way. I will make sure your life’s highlights and challenges are treated with sensitivity and respect.

Recent projects I have enjoyed working on:

  • Hurunui Seismic Stories – oral history interviews about the Kaikoura Quake, which were turned into a travelling exhibition, and now a book.
  • St John of God Hospital – interviews with past staff, Catholic Brothers, and families of residents, which are being used to create a written history.
  • St George's Cancer Care – interviews with cancer survivors used to reassure newly diagnosed patients.
  • Hanmer Springs Community History – personal accounts of growing up in a small town in the middle of last century.
  • Private family histories - life history interviews.

Sharing stories strengthens and restores family connections.
